PDI competition – Malling v Aberdeen, Tuesday February 17th
Malling Camera Club’s programme secretary Mike West came up with a new idea for an event for the 25/26 season, namely a friendly PDI competition with Aberdeen Camera Club.
Due to the distance technology was naturally employed and the show was run over Zoom, with the Southerners viewing the proceedings in the Hall.
54 excellent images were submitted, judged on the night by Martyn Pinches AFIAP AWPF from his home in Wales so making this a real tri-nation event.
With marks awarded out of 20 and demonstrating the tough job presented to the Judge, 15 images were deemed worthy of hold back status, with 5 subsequently given full marks.
Martyn’s judges pick went to Paul Davison for ‘Rain Dance’.
The eventual winners were Malling with 470 points versus Aberdeen with 444 points.
More important than the scores was having the opportunity to interact with the members of a distant Club, to see their work, and to keep the spirit of inter club communication alive and kicking.
Both Clubs enjoyed the evening and a repeat event next season is anticipated.
Malling send best wishes to John Thorn and his colleagues at Aberdeen and also to Judge Martyn Pinches for a great evening.
Top scoring images, Aberdeen:
Ice Cream Girl by Rob Buchan.
Backlit Squirrel with Nut by Sandy McIntosh.
Hungry Moth by Gavin McHugh.
The Boxing Match by Rob Buchan.
